Building Professionalism and Interactive Relationships

The Emergency Management Association of Texas is dedicated to the advancement of the field of emergency management both statewide and nationally. To that end, EMAT engages in an array of efforts to advance a statewide emergency management agenda and to promote the professional growth of the emergency management practitioner.

EMAT Strategic Overview

The EMAT Board of Directors is responsible for establishing the strategic oversight or direction of the association. Strategic Planning is used to define strategies, set priorities, focus efforts and resources, and ensure the association and its members are working toward common goals. The Strategic Planning committee is convened as needed to help align the association and its actions with our vision, mission and goals.

EMAT provides an opportunity for members to shape emergency management policy and practice in Texas.

EMAT Goals

  • Advance the professionalism of Emergency Management in Texas.
  • Increase membership.
  • As an organization, foster relations with other emergency management organizations.
  • Address Federal/State emergency management issues.
  • Develop and foster information sharing and mutual support networks for all phases of emergency management.


EMAT Working for You!

The Emergency Management Association of Texas is working for you! There are several opportunities for EMAT members to serve the broader discipline including state and federal committees, working groups, legislative review, and special assignments as defined by the EMAT President. If you have knowledge of an opportunity for EMAT to get involved, please contact your regional Director. EMAT is currently serving its members by participating in the following efforts:

Texas Legislative Updates

EMAT’s Legislative Committee follows emergency management bills of interest on behalf of its members. A listing of the current legislation affecting emergency managers can be found on the Legislative Updates page.
