2024 Atlantic Seasonal Hurricane Activity Forecast

The Colorado State University Tropical Weather and Climate Research Tropical Meteorology Project released the first formal 2024 Atlantic Seasonal Hurricane Activity forecast. It predicts the 2024 Atlantic basin hurricane season will be extremely active with a total of 23 named storms, 11 hurricanes, and five major hurricanes. Probabilities for a major (Category 3, 4, or 5) landfalling hurricane along the entire continental US coastline is 62% (the average over the last century is 43%). and are slightly higher on the Gulf coast (42%) than the East coast (34%). The probability for at least one major hurricane tracking through the Caribbean is 66% (the average over the last century is 47%). The Project will release its next forecast on June 11, 2024, and begin its two-week forecasts on August 6, 2024.
