Texas Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) announce data breach

17 Jan 2025 3:49 PM | Diane Weidenkopf (Administrator)

Today, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) announced a data breach that potentially impacts more than 61,000 recipients of Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). HHSC will notify identified recipients by first-class mail via the US Postal Service.

Initial investigation revealed the data breach was a result of employees illegally accessing personal account information contained in client records between June 2021 and December 2024.  HHSC officials recommend recipients carefully review their benefit accounts, health care provider accounts, insurance accounts, and bank statements for any questionable activities.  The HHSC published the attached FAQ about the data breach and stated the investigation is continuing.  Here is the link to the FAQ Privacy Breach Incident FAQ
